The Role

This is a fantastic opportunity to join our London based Legal team in this key role to help deliver our ambitious growth plans through next year and beyond. The main focus for this role is:

  • To provide legal and regulatory advice for all aspects of the Banks business, in relation to its regulatory requirements
  • To provide analysis and advice on legal and regulatory changes which impact on the business strategy to the legal and compliance teams and the business generally.


Key responsibilities

  • To act as a subject matter expert on regulatory matters and to contribute to the development of a compliant culture within the business
  • To provide legal and regulatory advice, drafting and analysis on legal and regulatory changes to enable the business to meet current and future regulatory requirements
  • To provide legal and regulatory advice on new and existing products

 In addition, the following skills are required:

  • Provide advice and analysis to the Bank on the following:
  • HM Treasury, FSA (PRA/FCA), BIS consultations
  • FSMA – new Financial Services Act
  • FSA (PRA/FCA) Handbook requirements and Perimeter Guidance
  • Consumer Credit
  • OFT Guidance
  • Anti Money laundering o UK cards and Lending Code requirements
  • ASA Advertising requirements
  • E-commerce
  • Ofcom
  • Data Protection Act
  • Bribery Act
  • Provide practical advice into all aspects of regulation to the business and compliance
  • Demonstrate a high quality, efficient and “can do” service
  • Contribute to the Compliance Committee reports and updates on changes in regulation
  • Assist in the Management of the relationship with regulators including the FSA (PRA/FCA), OFT, Information Commissioner
  • Contribute and facilitate relationships with UK Cards
  • Liaise with both internal and external service providers to support the business
  • Generally, contribute to the development of a compliance culture within the business


Skills and Experience

Proven abilities in the following:

  •  At least 5 years post qualification legal experience gained in the financial services sector
  • Experience of working in a regulated environment
  • Ability to manage/influence decision makers
  • Strong communication skills both written and verbal
  • Time management and organisational skills
  • Self starter with a hands-on approach
  • Used to balancing commercial considerations with regulatory obligations
  • Ability to priorities especially when under pressure
  • Solicitor/Barrister 5 years
  • Good analytical and attention to detail skills
  • Ability to work with minimum of supervision
  • The confidence to question the “norm”
