People might be able to improve their financial situation by moving in with their partner instead of living separately, according to one expert.
The
Moneynet.co.uk spokesman Andrew Hagger believes that couples who do not live together may face a greater financial burden because they are not pooling their rent and bills.
As long as certain conditions are met, "it certainly makes sense just to live together and then reduce your expenditure", he suggested, which might stop some people from having to get credit to meet their living costs.
Mr Hagger went on to say that those looking to build up a deposit to buy a house together could also benefit from moving in with each other beforehand, as this will enable them to "put that money into savings".
In contrast, the cost of living separately might cause problems for consumers, the expert suggests.
His remarks follow National Housing Federation/YouGov survey results, showing that a number of people are putting off their wedding plans in order to save up for a property.
