Families 'must not miss out' on childcare tax credits

Parents should check that they are taking advantage of all the financial benefits that are available to them, an expert suggests.

Emma Knights, joint chief executive of the childcare charity the Daycare Trust, believes that tax credits could be one area that families are not always aware of.

She said: "A lot of parents miss out on it - but it goes a lot further up the income bracket than people would expect."

Ms Knights added that consumers should double-check to see whether they are eligible to receive tax support relating to childcare.

She went on to say that the complexity of the current system of working tax credit may be one reason why parents do not realise their entitlements.

Meanwhile, families looking to avoid getting into credit card debt may be keen to hear that the Child Poverty Action Group has suggested that the government should do more to financially help those on lower levels of income.
