Consumers 'may be able to further reduce outgoings'
One way in which people with a bad credit history might be able to improve their financial situation is by reducing their regular outgoings.

Those who wish to do so may be looking to their energy bills as an area where they could be able to take this kind of action.

If this is the case, they may have welcomed news from all of the big six energy providers that they will be reducing their costs in the coming months.

Many claimed wholesale prices have fallen and that they are simply passing this saving on to consumers.

However, it could be possible for individuals to take measures themselves and indeed, the government has joined forces with several charities in order to raise awareness of what can be done.

A campaign entitled Big Energy Week is running until January 21st, with one of its stated aims being to help individuals to spend less.

For instance, many suppliers offer free or discounted cavity wall and loft insulation, which will result in savings in the long term and reduced bill costs.

This could go some way to cutting regular outgoings and may ease the pressure on a household's budget.

It could therefore free individuals up financially and allow them to set more money aside when drawing up a budget plan.

Brits could find this becomes a more important consideration in the months to come, as experts have suggested competition could be increased in the financial market in 2012.

Those who manage to successfully build a credit rating may be in a stronger position to take advantage of this trend if they take action accordingly.

Research conducted by Citizens Advice found approximately 50 per cent of Brits believe utilities will be a strain on their finances over the next year and 43 per cent are worried they will not be able to afford their next bill.
