Things like insulation could offer people a potential money saving solution, commented Emma Thompson from the energy firm
E.ON.
She believes that householders may quickly benefit if they choose to invest in insulation now.
Ms Thompson stated: "It is about the payback and insulation is typically a payback in year one for a lot of people."
Meanwhile, people might also be able to lower their energy consumption by adopting simpler measures, the expert added.
These could include using appliances like tumble dryers less frequently, she feels.
When it comes to people's outgoings, price comparison website moneysupermarket.com recently suggested that nearly five million people may be regularly having to get into
credit card debt in order to meet the costs of their household bills.
