Women have become increasingly responsible for the finances of UK families, new figures have suggested.
Of those polled in a recent
AXA survey, 27 per cent of females are entirely responsible for their family's mortgage payments.
Meanwhile, 30 per cent are also said to be meeting the costs of their household's bills on their own.
Jamie McIver from the firm believes that women may need to improve their insurance cover in order to financially protect themselves.
He commented: "I would encourage women to start focusing on their financial wellbeing, so that they avoid the potential financial meltdown they could find themselves in if they aren't protected."
The recession is something that has affected the financial security of many UK consumers, potentially adding to the financial strain of those in
credit card debt.
Last week, Mike Fosberry, president of the Personal Finance Society, noted that the impact of the economic downturn is still being felt.
