Many young drivers have to overcome a number of costs before they can run a car of their own, new figures suggest.
Things like insurance cover and driving lessons can require large amounts of money, Gocompare.com has highlighted.
Research published by the price comparison firm finds that younger car users may have to meet average costs of £5,731 before they are able to legally drive.
Car insurance alone can mount up to £2,455 on average, the website suggests, which might force some consumers to look at ways in which they can get credit.
Gocompare.com's Lee Griffin believes that young people should shop around for the best insurance deals available.
He said: "While the initial costs are high, the best advice in the long run is to shop around for the best price for insurance in the young driver's own name."
Earlier in the autumn, Gocompare.com claimed that people holidaying overseas should consider taking out travel insurance, to avoid facing large costs.
