Parents who allow their children to use their
credit card details online have been warned to keep an eye on their youngsters, after one racked up a £900 bill on a Facebook game.
The anonymous woman revealed that her 12-year-old son had spent all the money playing FarmVille, which allows users to purchase 'coins' for the game using real cash, which could have plunged the unlucky mother into
credit card debt.
According to Debt Management Today, it is becoming increasingly easy to shop on the internet and generous parents who give their child free reign with a
credit card could end up with a nasty surprise.
"For over-generous parents, financial experts have advised the age-old classic 'just say no' technique, and to just transfer money across to their children's accounts as and when they need it - with the emphasis being on need, rather than want," the site said.
The
Consumer Credit Counselling Service recently claimed that it has advised more than 2,500 people who are 25 years of age or under to consider debt relief orders since their introduction in April of last year.
