A target date of October 31st 2018 has been set by the Payments Council for the phasing out of cheques. This is a point of concern for many people who still regularly use their cheque book to pay for bills and services.
James Salmon of the Daily Mail has advised consumers that they need not worry as many, if not all, of these bills and services can be paid for using a credit card.
Milkmen across the UK, for example, are still largely paid by either cash or cheque, but Mr Salmon highlights that many customers can actually pay for their milk by direct debit or with a recurring payment from a credit card, even those with a bad credit rating.
Dairy Crest, the UK's biggest operator of milkmen, told the newspaper that more of its customers are paying by direct debit having signed-up on the internet.
Speaking to the Telegraph, Darren Cook, a spokesman for Moneyfacts, recently warned consumers to pay off any debt they have on their credit cards before any other form of debt.
