Consumers who make use of the internet should aim to safeguard things like their
credit card accounts by ensuring their online identities (IDs) are protected, it is suggested.
According to an article published by consumer group
Which?, various threats could be posed by ID thieves, if people like internet cafe users are not careful.
The organisation's piece stated: "Armed with a few choice facts about you, an ID thief might be able to open a bank account in your name or, worse, access your bank or credit card account."
In the same article, Which? also encouraged consumers to check that any websites they are looking to buy items from are properly secure.
People need to look for sites which have secure servers in place, it added.
Consumers making holiday bookings might be able to gain protection if they make use of credit card products, John Miles, business development director at Gocompare.com, recently suggested.
