New figures from the Bank of England indicate levels of
credit card lending were broadly unchanged in December 2011, suggesting this is a consistently popular option for many individuals.
While there was no change in the amount lent on the month, there was a 2.4 per cent 12-month growth compared with the same time in the previous year.
Taking out one of these financial products can help repair bad credit, as being credit active can prove to a potential lender the individual is capable of managing their finances effectively.
This is because providers often look for evidence the borrower is a reliable payer of debts and can keep on top of their outgoings.
As a result of this, it is advisable to build credit history slowly, without exceeding income so the chances of falling behind with repayments are reduced.
Furthermore, paying over the minimum on any outstanding debts can also make a positive contribution to this goal, as it can reassure creditors they will receive regular payments from the individual.
This can apply to all outgoings - including a mortgage, which some people may be prioritising at the present time.
The Bank of England statistics also revealed lending on secured dwellings stood at £13 billion in December, with repayments in line with the six-month average at £11.4 billion.
As this data is also unchanged, it could indicate a significant amount of the population is attempting to establish a secure routine in order to take control of their outgoings and avoid facing financial difficulties such as debt.
