Last year saw a £170 million reduction in credit and debit card fraud losses, according to new figures.
This represents a drop of 28 per cent when compared with 2008, the UK Cards Association believes.
Chip and PIN is among the key factors which are said to have led to the publication of the improved statistics.
The association's chair Melanie Johnson suggested that retailers may also benefit from the card fraud decrease, along with consumers who are looking to get credit cards.
"We are committed to a wide range of measures to ensure customers feel confident, safe and secure when they use their credit and debit cards," she stated.
Card fraud losses in the UK stood at £440.3 million last year, Ms Johnson's organisation has highlighted.
A number of advice guides relating to plastic cards are available to consumers from the association's website, relating to issues like fraud.
