Check credit to get credit, says Confused.com
Consumers should check their credit file regularly to boost the chances of being accepted for a credit card, according to Confused.com.

The price comparison website's survey revealed that 40 per cent of people fear that an unsuccessful credit card application will damage their credit score. This is despite the fact that 12 per cent of people polled reported that their credit score has actually improved over the past 12 months.

But according to the price comparison site, those who are seeking to borrow money or manage the credit card debt that they have already built up can reduce the risk of being rejected when seeking to get credit by using a credit scoring tool.

Joanne Garcia, head of credit cards at Confused.com, said that 22 to 30 year olds are more likely to be concerned about trying to improve their credit score.

She added: "But now there is nothing to stop them from checking to see if they have a good chance of being accepted. At the very least, people should check their credit file as they need to make sure all the information is correct - they can do this for free via Confused.com."

Figures by the Bank of England reveal that credit card lending increased by £100 million in September.ADNFCR-2660-ID-19454483-ADNFCR
