Advice relating to issues like
credit card debt is often free to consumers, an expert has pointed out.
Peter Sargent, of R3, the Association of Business Recovery Professionals, has emphasised that people do not always have to pay to receive financial guidance.
Mr Sargent, the insolvency trade body's president, stated: "We need to make one point clear to those in debt; advice can be free."
For instance, he noted: "An insolvency practitioner will give you an hour's free advice."
Mr Sargent was speaking in relation to research published earlier this month by R3, which has found that 21 per cent of people may not be aware of who they should turn to in order gain advice about their debt problems.
A total of 19 per cent of respondents with financial problems are also said to dread opening their bills.
Meanwhile, Unbiased.co.uk recently suggested that the borrowing habits of many UK consumers are continuing in spite of the recent economic downturn.
