Younger debtors 'often seeking online advice'
Many younger debtors are looking to make use of the internet to solve their financial problems, new figures suggest, which may include people with credit card debt.

The Consumer Credit Counselling Service (CCCS) has revealed that two thirds of those who accessed its web-based Debt Remedy service in 2009 were younger than 40.

According to the organisation's head of e-services Paula Searle, the amount of time people spend generally going on the internet can influence their use of online debt advice services.

"The higher rates of online debt counselling users in any particular category is likely to be a combination of need for help with their debts and general internet usage," she commented.

A total of 40 per cent of those using the Debt Remedy service last year have annual earnings that fall between £10,000 and £19,999, the CCCS has revealed.

The organisation last month noted that the number of people using its Debt Remedy service increased substantially between 2008 and 2009.
