Growing numbers seeking help for debt worries
The number of people seeking out professional help for credit card debt and other money worries has continued to increase, it has been reported.

The latest figures from Citizens Advice show that it is now dealing with around 9,500 new debt problems every day across England and Wales.

This record level of interest represents a 24 per cent increase on the number of people turning to the advice group for help in the final three months of 2008.

The charity has seen marked increases in the number of people falling behind on their energy and water bills, as well as on other outgoings such as phone debts.

Furthermore, the new figures also show that the number of Britons falling behind on their rent or mortgages, as well as on their council tax payments, has also increased, with many likely to be suffering from bad credit history and therefore unable to get the leg-up they need to get their personal finances sorted.

"We may officially be in recovery, but for many people the damage done by the economic downturn is long-lasting and far from over," noted Citizens Advice chief executive David Harker.

This comes after research carried out by F&C Investments found that just under half of all 35 to 45-year-olds feel that they have their personal finances under control.
