Proactive approach 'needed to address debt'
A proactive approach should be adopted by consumers who are having to face up to the realities of debt problems, according to one commentator.

The economic environment is still causing difficulties for a number of people, despite the UK's slightly more positive GDP figures which were released last month, Moneysupermarket.com's Tim Moss believes.

Mr Moss, the website's head of loans and debt, suggests that those struggling to cope with financial problems such as credit card debt may want to get in touch with a knowledgeable organisation.

He commented: "Consumers need to ensure they take their financial situation into their own hands, and contact debt counselling charities such as the CCCS [Consumer Credit Counselling Service] or the Citizens Advice Bureau if they find themselves in difficulty."

The CCCS's director of external affairs Delroy Corinaldi has recently noted the free guidance that is available to those who are experiencing debt problems.
