Self-employed workers offered debt advice helpline

Self-employed workers that are facing credit card debt pressures are being offered the chance to take advantage of an advice line operated by the Consumer Credit Counselling Service (CCCS).

The organisation received a higher number of phone calls from those who were self-employed last month, with January seeing 739 such enquiries.

Manager of the CCCS helpline Laura Carver believes that the number of self-employed people requiring debt guidance seems to be on the up.

"We have received thousands of calls from self-employed and sole traders over the past year and heard a lot of stories of people struggling to manage their personal debts," she commented.

Meanwhile, the CCCS has also recently highlighted the effects that money troubles can have on people's emotions, in addition to their financial situation.

The organisation's chairman Malcolm Hurlston believes that this can have a wider impact on the likes of financial organisations.
