New parents 'should be offered budgeting advice'
It might prove beneficial to offer new parents guidance about budgeting, an expert suggests, which may interest those who are having to consider products like poor credit credit cards.

Debt Advice Foundation managing director David Rodger noted that budgeting advice might help people avoid debt problems in the future.

He stated: "If action could be taken early to help parents avoid debt and learn to cope financially, this would make a genuine difference."

Mr Rodger went on to say that a number of the people contacting his organisation for advice seem to be parents who have young children.

Those who avoid addressing their debt problems may see their financial situations get worse, the expert added.

His remarks follow the publication of recent uSwitch.com research, which highlighted the debt that new mothers may have to endure during their maternity leave.

An average debt of £1,329 is racked up by mothers during their time off work, the website suggested.
