DROs 'can help people to address debt concerns'
People may be able to overcome some of their debt problems by making use of Debt Relief Orders (DROs), an expert has suggested.

Those who are struggling with major levels of credit card debt might benefit from recent government proposals, which could see the eligibility of the orders extended.

Consumer Credit Counselling Service (CCCS) spokesperson Tom Howard has noted that DROs can be used if people do not want to become bankrupt.

"For some, insolvency is the best option and DROs, where appropriate, are a useful tool in helping people confront and resolve debt problems," he commented.

Mr Howard went on to say that his organisation would like to see ministers regularly assess the requirements that people need to fulfil in order to gain access to DROs.

The CCCS has also recently encouraged people to think about seeking debt advice if they are frequently having to make use of their bank account's overdraft facility.
