There has been a substantial rise in the number of people trying to gain debt-related guidance from
Citizens Advice, it has been revealed.
Over the course of the 2009/10 financial year, the organisation believes that the number of debt enquiries its English and Welsh bureaux received went up by 23 per cent annually.
In total, the period covered by the body's statistics is said to have seen 7.1 million new enquiries made, covering a range of financial topics, which may have included issues such as
credit card debt.
The recession is still taking its toll on many people, according to the chief executive of Citizens Advice David Harker.
He added: "We know from our frontline that the human impact of the recession is far from over for people who have lost their job or their home, or both, in the past two years."
Last month, the organisation revealed that its website is set to make financial advice videos available to deaf people, with the use of British Sign Language.
