Employers 'should help workers to seek debt guidance'
Rather than leaving their staff to fend for themselves, employers should offer support to those who are in debt, a charity believes.

Businesses are being urged by the Consumer Credit Counselling Service (CCCS) to show debtors where they might be able to gain impartial financial advice to help deal with their problems.

The CCCS external affairs director Delroy Corinaldi feels that it is important that employers offer support to their workers in the right way.

He believes that it "doesn't have to mean speaking to employees individually as those with debt problems are likely to feel very private about their finances".

"Providing information on noticeboards and in staff magazines" could therefore be a better option, the expert added.

Earlier in the month, the CCCS suggested that people may be encouraged to seek credit card debt advice online because of the fact they do not have to reveal their identities on the web.
