Older debtors 'failing to benefit from online advice'
Some older people in credit card debt may not currently be making use of the online advice that is available to them, it has been suggested.

Those over the age of 60 are being encouraged to take advantage of web-based debt guidance by the Consumer Credit Counselling Service (CCCS).

In 2009, only a very small proportion of the people accessing the body's CCCS Debt Remedy service were over the age of 60.

Just three per cent of the service's users were above this age, the charity has revealed.

CCCS head of e-services Paula Searle believes that the country's older debtors should try to access help when they need it.

She stated: "Although people should seek help in the medium where they are most comfortable, I am concerned that older people should not miss out on any of our services."

UK employers should show their staff where they can get useful debt advice if they are struggling financially, the CCCS also suggested last week.
