More action needs to be taken to help the nation's poorer families gain access to vital financial benefits, it has been suggested, which might stop them from having to get credit.
The benefits system should be made less complex, according to Imran Hussain, the
Child Poverty Action Group's head of policy, rights and advocacy.
"We want all the parties to pledge to tackling error and helping those who are entitled get the support they need by making the system simpler and easier to understand," he commented.
Meanwhile, Mr Hussain added that large amounts of money are lost in the UK each year because of benefits underpayments and overpayments.
The expert made his remarks in response to new benefit fraud proposals which were recently put forward by the Conservative Party.
With the general election now only weeks away, the Conservatives are set to reveal a number of other manifesto proposals later this week.
