People in fuel poverty 'require further financial support'
People struggling to overcome fuel poverty need to be given more financial support, an expert believes.

According to moneysupermarket.com's utilities manager Scott Byrom, problems relating to the current social tariff system will have to be dealt with in the near future.

While some people may have recently been forced to get credit in order to meet their energy outgoings, the expert suggests that consumers in fuel poverty should take a proactive approach.

He commented: "I advise vulnerable customers struggling to pay their energy bills to be proactive and contact their energy supplier to see what options are available with regards to reducing their energy bill."

However, Mr Byrom went on to say that companies providing energy should also take action to help their consumers.

Meanwhile, the expert has recently noted the money savings that householders might be able to make if they are willing to shop around for the best available energy deals.
