Many Brits could be attempting to repair a
bad credit rating by assessing their expenditure and reducing their monthly outgoings.
As a result, some could be making cutbacks on health considerations such as gym membership, new research from price comparison website MoneySupermarket.com reveals.
It was found over two-thirds (68 per cent) of respondents consider this to be an unnecessary cost, as they are able to keep fit in other ways.
However, it was indicated the gym may be considered more essential by younger generations, as 18 per cent of 18 to 34-year-olds intend to renew their membership, compared with six per cent of over-55s.
"Despite the indulgence of Christmas it seems gym membership is not high on the priority list for a New Year health kick as Brits look to cut costs," commented head of protection at MoneySupermarket.com James Clarke.
Indeed, a recent study conducted by Gocompare.com found the most popular New Year's resolution is for an individual to sort out their financial situation.
