Many people based in Scotland have recently been encouraged to find ways to lower their energy expenditure, with the support of a government-backed initiative.
While some consumers may have had to get credit to pay for their fuel bills, the Energy Assistance phone line has offered an alternative, with more than 1,200 homeowners said to have received guidance in recent weeks to switch their energy provider.
Alex Neil, the Scottish government's housing and communities minister, believes that it is important to support families on lower incomes in particular.
"This was never more important than during the recent freezing conditions, when we saw temperatures plummet to 50-year lows," he commented.
In total, over 6,900 householders made use of the Energy Assistance phone line between January 6th and 23rd.
Meanwhile, moneysupermarket.com suggested yesterday (February 1st) that people may be in for an unpleasant surprise when they open their next quarterly energy bill due to a rise in costs.
