People 'could make financial savings' by improving energy efficiency
Financial savings could potentially be made by people if they take the time to enhance the energy efficiency of the properties which they own, it has been highlighted by one organisation.

The Association of Residential Letting Agents (ARLA) highlighted some of the steps which those who possess properties could take if they would like to cut down on their spending while helping to support the environment at the same time.

Insulation is one measure which the organisation suggests could prove beneficial to people in the future, if they are willing to adopt it.

Floor and cavity wall forms of insulation are among the products which could be added to homes in this sense, it pointed out.

Meanwhile, the ARLA recommended that efforts could be made by people to prevent draughts from having an effect on the warmth of their property interiors.

The problem of heat loss could also potentially be tackled with the aid of measures like insulated water fittings and decent levels of loft insulation, the body continued.

Within its list of guidance, it noted: "Although many properties now have loft insulation installed, check the depth and quality."

"The recommended thickness is between 250-300mm for optimum energy efficiency," the body stated.

However, the ARLA is not the only source to highlight some of the ways in which consumers could lower their energy usage and potentially make financial savings this week.

Additionally, Maria Wardrobe, the director of communications at National Energy Action, discussed some of the behavioural changes that might help to cut the energy consumption of UK residents.

These include "making sure appliances are turned off at the wall, turning lights off and closing the curtains at dusk", she suggested, which may interest those who are aiming to lower their spending in a bid to overcome a bad credit rating.

Insulation has also been advocated by Ms Wardrobe as an energy saving measure.
