Energy debt 'an issue for many homeowners'
More homeowners may have to deal with energy debt problems in the coming months, it has been suggested.

Responding to recent figures from Ofgem concerning debt repayments among the country's energy consumers, uSwitch.com's Thomas Lyon believes that a growth in energy bills has hit the finances of many people.

Mr Lyon, the switching website's energy expert, commented: "Energy bills are substantially higher - £327 a year more - than they were at the beginning of 2008 even after suppliers cut their prices last year."

The expert additionally suggested that the firms responsible for the supply of energy in the UK should consider whether it is possible for more cuts to be applied to consumers' energy costs, in a development which might help those who have to deal with things like credit card debt.

While the cold snap of extreme winter weather may have receded for now, uSwitch.com has also recently outlined a number of tips which could help homeowners if a power cut were to strike at some point in the near future.
