Maths lessons 'teaching children about personal finance'
By taking part in maths lessons relating to real-life situations, school pupils may be able to learn more about personal finance, it has been suggested.

According to Alison Terry, a consultant at the Personal Finance Education Group, personal finance issues have been increasingly used by those teaching maths during the past two years.

She commented: "At the moment there is a big push towards something called 'functional skills', which is teaching maths but also English and ICT in a way which is real life, it has meaning to the children."

Meanwhile, Ms Terry has also noted that maths teachers may be able to use things like credit card debt repayments in their classes as examples which might engage their students.

Earlier in the month, the government outlined plans to introduce more money management education in the country's schools, which should relate to topics such as debt and pensions.
