The likelihood of people using plastic cards as part of their money management is highest among consumers in the south-east region of England, new figures have suggested.
Those looking to overcome credit card debt may be interested to note the findings of research published by the country's Payments Council, which has shown that 97 per cent of people in the south-east are thought to be in possession of a card.
Meanwhile, the organisation also believes that 59 per cent of people based in areas of the south-east are now banking through phone or online means.
Commenting on the Payments Council's research, which looks at payment trends across the country, the body's director of communications Sandra Quinn believes that people are increasingly opting for alternative forms of banking.
She said: "This research, on the whole, confirms long standing trends; increasing reliance on debit cards and phone or internet banking and a noticeable decline in use of cheques."
Last month, the Payments Council Board announced plans to phase out cheque payments by the year 2018.
