Some of the country's more vulnerable consumers might financially benefit from becoming more aware of the amount of energy they consume, an expert from one price comparison website has suggested.
By closely monitoring meter readings during the winter, people may be able to avoid things like overpayments, Confused.com has recently suggested.
Gareth Kloet, the firm's head of energy, believes that energy awareness is one of a number of measures that the country's vulnerable residents should consider to stop the cold conditions from taking their toll.
In a development that may interest those who are currently having to get credit to meet their energy costs, he said: "Staying aware of your energy consumption, shopping around for the best deals and taking full advantage of the grants and assistance at hand are all important things to do."
Last month, Mr Kloet's website offered a range of advice to homeowners, outlining how they might protect their homes against the potential costs of damage caused by winter weather.
