"Treat yourself as your own best friend" to manage finances

Those who have made a new year's resolution to regain control of their finances and repair a bad credit rating may wish to adopt an attitude of self-encouragement.

Performance coach Julia Armstrong suggested people should "treat yourself as your own best friend" and ensure any set goals are realistic.

Her comments closely echo those of life coach and personal trainer at Footprintcoaching.org.uk Georgina Burnett, who recently claimed many people do have manageable targets, but do not give themselves enough time in which to achieve them.

Ms Armstrong advised establishing any goals and writing them down - which could include a budget plan - as it is more likely this will be engaged with as a result.

This is because an individual is more likely to stick to their targets "when the motivation is lower after the first enthusiasm of setting off has died down".

"Give yourself time to achieve what you have set," she remarked, also noting a support network can be beneficial.
