Young Brits 'are financially mature'
Young people may be bucking the trend of stereotypes and adopting a mature attitude to their personal finances.

New data released from the Savings Survey conducted by National Savings & Investments (NS&I) indicated British males between the ages of 25 and 34-years-old are the most committed to setting some money aside.

This could help them avoid money difficulties such as a bad credit rating and financial security was found to be one of the key motivators.

For instance, saving some cash in case of an emergency is considered just as important as preparing for a holiday.

Nearly a quarter - 23 per cent - of respondents acknowledged this was the goal they have in mind when keeping some money aside for the future.

The most popular factor is aiming for the deposit on a home, which 47 per cent of young males said they prioritise.

Those between the ages of 16 and 24-years-old were found to save a greater portion of their monthly income than any other age group.

Around 7.8 per cent of this is kept for the future, compared with just 6.7 per cent for those between the ages of 45 and 54.

"We are delighted that so many young people are mature beyond their years and saving responsibly," commented savings spokesman for NS&I John Prout.

"Setting specific targets is a good way to stay motivated and even if it's only a small amount being set aside each month the savings soon mount up. If you're struggling with your finances, January is a great chance to start afresh," he continued.

Head of corporate communications for Skipton Building Society Tracy Fletcher recently claimed setting goals is the best means of ensuring success with financial matters.

Research conducted by her firm indicated many people do intend to use the new year as a fresh start, with money management ranking highly among the top five resolutions.
