UK consumers might be able to improve their financial situation by checking to see whether they are currently paying too much in tax, it has been suggested.
A sum of £9 billion could be wasted by the country's residents in 2010 because of tax overpayments, Unbiased.co.uk figures have revealed.
The organisation's chief executive Karen Barrett believes that people need to improve their awareness of things like tax credits and incentives, which may prove beneficial.
She stated: "While things may be starting to look up in 2010, it is still vital for everyone to be looking at their finances and making sure they're not throwing money away unnecessarily."
In particular, the website has suggested that a number of people may be failing to take full advantage of tax credits, because they are paying more tax than they should be.
Last month, Ms Barrett noted that those struggling to manage credit card debt could benefit from the guidance provided by an independent financial advisor.
