One in four Brits 'struggled to meet winter bills'
New figures have shown a quarter of Brits have struggled through the cold winter by trying to keep their fuel bills at a minimum, which could be due to the pressures of credit card debt.

Statistics published by Gocompare.com have shown that 21 per cent of consumers will struggle with the financial strain imposed on them by their bills.

Mark Greening, head of utilities in Gocompare.com, claimed that many energy companies have chosen not to pass on their savings to their customers.

He said: "Energy providers announcing record profits should hang their heads in shame for taking advantage of the coldest weather in 30 years to boost their bottom line when so many people … couldn't afford to heat their homes properly."

Last month, figures were published by Consumer Focus that showed that six million Brits are currently suffering from fuel poverty, highlighting the recent cold weather as a major contributing factor.
