Credit cards can help consumers to budget for the festive season, according to lovemoney.com.
Brits wishing to save money on that festive holiday or extra special Christmas gift, can also get added piece of mind from the protection that credit cards offer when goods fail to arrive, or do not work.
This is because both the credit card company and the retailer are liable for any losses on purchases under section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act.
According to advice published by lovemoney.com, getting a cashback credit card or a zero per cent purchase card can help some consumers to get a good deal on their shopping this Christmas.
However, consumers with a bad credit rating may face difficulty in getting one of these cards.
Ed Bowsher, head of consumer finance at lovemoney.com, pointed out that making too many credit card applications can affect a person's credit score.
He said: "It is best not to make too many credit card applications as it doesn't look great on your credit history so it might be worth checking your credit rating first."
The latest statistics from the Bank of England reveal that credit card lending increased last month by £0.1 billion.
