Consumers should try to learn more about their shopping rights to ensure that they do not miss out on potential money savings, it has been suggested.
According to the Know Your Consumer Rights campaign, which is backed by a number of organisations including the government's Department for Business, Innovation and Skills, festive shoppers should be knowledgeable about what they are entitled to.
It claims that people should ensure that the presents they buy for their friends and families are described accurately and are of a decent quality.
Kevin Brennan, the government's consumer minister, has emphasised the benefits that consumer rights can lead to.
Commenting at a recent Consumer Congress backed by the National Consumer Federation, he said: "You are much more likely to get a fair deal, save money and get the right result if you are aware of your rights."
Meanwhile, those looking to get credit and use credit cards to meet the costs of Christmas this year were recently warned by CPP card fraud expert Sarah Blaney to be wary of financial fraud.
