Fuel poverty is likely to affect a number of the country's householders in 2010, unless steps are taken to cut the costs of domestic energy, according to one expert.
Scott Byrom, utilities manager at the price comparison website moneysupermarket.com, believes that next year will continue to see energy prices discussed.
He commented: "If we don't see prices drop in 2010, fuel poverty will remain a big issue especially in an election year.
"The price of gas and electricity will remain a hot topic in 2010."
Consumers looking to manage credit card debt by making money savings may be able to reduce their energy outgoings by opting for monthly direct debit payments, the expert has also suggested.
Last month, moneysupermarket.com noted that the issue of energy bills may be causing arguments among the members of some UK families, with bill payers often looking to save cash by leaving the heating off.
