Ministers aiming to improve consumer protection
The government is set to continue its aim to support the country's residents by looking at what form a new consumer champion should take.

Ministers plan to employ someone as a Consumer Advocate to ensure that people's rights are well-protected in the coming years.

In a development that may appeal to those looking to avoid credit card debt, a consultation will now be run to allow people the chance to discuss how the role should develop in the long run.

Kevin Brennan, the government's consumer minister, commented that the position should offer a number of benefits.

He said: "The advocate will support consumers, take legal action on their behalf, help them to get compensation and warn consumers about latest scams."

Mr Brennan went on to confirm that the government will take steps to advertise the position in the near future.

Meanwhile, the government has also revealed plans to provide smart meters to all of the country's homeowners in the next 11 years, which may offer further financial support to consumers.ADNFCR-2660-ID-19494255-ADNFCR
