Wasted energy 'costing homeowners large sums'
UK householders are wasting large amounts of money because their homes are not fitted with enough energy-efficiency measures, it is believed.

According to the Energy Saving Trust's head of knowledge services, Dr Paula Owen, as much as £8 billion worth of energy may annually be lost due to factors such as poor insulation.

However, the prospect of lower energy bills may be enough to motivate consumers to improve their focus on energy efficiency, she added.

Dr Owen stated: "There are a range of grants available to help people get started and the clean energy cash-back scheme ... also has potential to get people generating their own energy and consequently slashing their bills."

While this winter's high fuel bills may have already forced some homeowners to get credit to meet their outgoings, uSwitch.com's director of consumer policy Ann Robinson recently suggested that even larger costs may be on their way in the coming years.
