Some people may be feeling a greater degree of financial pressure due to rising transport costs, one organisation has suggested, which may force some to get credit.
According to the latest Income Tracker produced by the Centre for Economics and Business Research on behalf of
Asda, UK consumers saw their transport costs increase annually by 11 per cent in April.
Meanwhile, on a year-by-year basis, the research showed that the four-week period also saw people's food costs go up by a figure of 2.8 per cent.
The chief executive and president of Asda, Andy Clarke, believes that people's disposable income has fallen in recent times.
He commented: "This month's tracker shows £8 a week drop in disposable income, reiterating that life is still tough for consumers and this is unlikely to change."
Consumers also had to contend with a CPI inflation rate of 3.7 per cent last month, the Office for National Statistics recently reported.
