Low earners 'should be given more financial support'
People on lower incomes are not receiving enough financial support from the government, it has been suggested.

Carolyn Jones, director of the Institute of Employment Rights (IER), believes that the country's tax system is one area that may need to be amended to help low earners.

Meanwhile, people looking to overcome credit card debt may be interested to note that Ms Jones believes the minimum wage should be increased in the near future.

She commented: "We do have the national minimum wage but it has been set at such a low rate [that] we argue it institutionalises low pay [rather] than solving the problem."

Her comments follow calls made by the Trades Union Congress for the government to reduce the amount of tax relief enjoyed by some of the country's higher earners.

Founded in 1989, the IER aims to inform the development of labour-related laws in the UK.ADNFCR-2660-ID-19468662-ADNFCR
