Consumers 'becoming more vigilant of card fraud'
People's vigilance of plastic card fraud appears to have improved in recent times, new figures suggest.

According to a new report published by the fraud prevention organisation CIFAS, entitled Fraudscape, instances of card fraud have dropped by around ten per cent.

However, people hoping to get credit cards might still need to be aware of the danger of fraud, with CIFAS noting that last year almost saw a ten per cent annual rise in the total amount of fraud.

The organisation's chief executive, Peter Hurst, believes that there are still challenges to overcome in the near future.

However, he commented: "By sharing knowledge and pooling resources, CIFAS members have prevented millions of pounds of fraud year after year and also increased the knowledge of the methods used to defraud businesses [and] consumers."

Meanwhile, towards the end of 2009, CIFAS encouraged people to stay alert to the threat of identity fraud.
