The start of the new year may see a rise in the number of people looking to gain debt advice, according to one expert.
Chris Jenkins, co-owner of the Homeowners Advice Centre, has suggested that credit cards might have proven to be a spending option for people ahead of Christmas.
He commented: "As soon as the bills start to hit in January and February, that's when we have found that our enquiries have spiked, because people have over-extended themselves slightly."
However, it is not just credit card debt that is likely to pose problems for some of the country's residents.
Mr Jenkins also believes that issues regarding unemployment may lead others to seek guidance.
Meanwhile, consumers have also recently been told about the importance of quickly coming to terms with credit card debt by Martin Bamford, a chartered financial planner at Informed Choice.
He suggests that unsecured debts should be a priority for people.
