Debt collection organisations should aim to offer more support to those who are making repayments, it has been suggested.
A variety of organisations have collaborated on a new report, which seeks to build upon the current practices that are adopted by those operating within the debt collection sector.
The document, which has been drawn up by the likes of Citizens Advice and AdviceUK, aims to encourage firms to communicate with people more clearly, while offering useful information.
Citizens Advice's creditor liaison policy officer Alex MacDermott has highlighted some of the problems that people who have had to get credit might face if they are pressured to pay back their debts.
Mr MacDermott, who authored the new report, commented: "Homes, possessions and essential services can be lost where people are persuaded to make debt repayments before paying for everyday essentials."
Fuel and water debts are among the financial issues that a number of people have recently raised with Citizens Advice Bureau employees, the organisation recently noted.
