Stressed-out students worried over growing debts
Around half of all British students have considered giving up their studies due to financial concerns, research has found.

With several leading universities currently calling for tuition fees to be pushed up further still, the findings of the 2010 Sodexo University Lifestyle Survey show that many young adults are just as worried about money matters as they are over academic ones.

Of those students polled, around one in four said that they expect to graduate at least £15,000 in the red, with tuition fees joined by bad credit card debts and personal loans.

Furthermore, 67 per cent of respondents said that they are having a hard time juggling their studies with holding down a part-time job and a social life.

Commenting, Peter Taylor, head of universities for Sodexo, said: "There is clearly a large financial strain on students if they are having to reduce spending on food and are eating less healthily."

At the start of the month, National Skills Academy Financial Services (NSAFS) launched a new scheme aimed at helping younger Britons get a grip on their personal finances, including on their credit card debts.
