Fuel poverty is causing problems for a high number of homeowners in the UK, according to a member of one consumer group.
Consumer Focus's deputy chief executive Philip Cullum has noted that as many as six million homes may be having to face up to this major financial issue.
He commented: "Energy companies have taken advantage this winter, while more than six million UK households live in fuel poverty and face a desperate struggle to keep warm."
Mr Cullum's organisation suggests that energy bills need to be reduced by the country's providers, as many of them appear to be enjoying decent profits.
The toll that the recent cold snap has taken on householders, along with large fuel bills, has been highlighted by the expert, which might have forced some people to get credit.
National Energy Action's spokeswoman Lesley Tudor-Snodin also believes that action may be required to tackle energy overpricing among poorer consumers.
