January 'a good month' to take stock of finances
January could prove to be a useful month for people who are currently having to put up with debt problems, an expert suggests.

According to David Harker, chief executive of Citizens Advice, the first few weeks of 2010 might provide an opportunity for consumers to review their current financial position.

He noted: "The key thing is not to bury your head in the sand and don't be embarrassed to seek help if you need it."

On the subject of mortgage repayments, Mr Harker added that it might be a good idea for people to try to gain independent guidance or support from their lender if they are facing financial difficulties.

Meanwhile, Citizens' Advice announced at the turn of the year that it is to offer a number of workshop events concerning the issue of money saving.

It is hoped that the events might help people to gradually put money aside towards the 2010 festive season, rather than struggling to deal with credit card debt.
