Online festive shoppers 'should aim to stay secure'
People may be able to lower their Christmas spending by shopping for gifts online this year, it has been suggested.

However, the security software firm BitDefender believes there are a number of practices consumers can adopt if they want to stay safe while shopping around on the web.

The company offers the advice that people should not stray too far from trustworthy websites when looking for online deals.

Meanwhile, those hoping to get credit as the festive season approaches might also be interested to note that it suggests that credit cards could be made use of in place of debit cards, as they may provide a higher fraud liability.

Catalin Cosoi, senior anti-spam researcher at BitDefender, commented that the benefits provided by the internet do not "have to cost consumers more than they’ve bargained for".

Meanwhile, Adeptra research has this month suggested that a number of people do not assess their financial statements on a very regular basis, potentially leaving them open to fraud.ADNFCR-2660-ID-19484829-ADNFCR
